the past two week's worth of wt studies have made a couple points that appear contradictory in nature.

yesterday was too much, i felt at least.

either there's another faction within the writing department fighting for the equivalent of airtime in the literature, or they're all so indoctrinated that they fail to see the irony in what they publish.. for instance, take paragraph 5 from last week's lesson.. 5. unlike the law codes of many countries, "the perfect law" is neither complex nor burdensome but consists of simple commandements and principles.

Elephant you keep deviating from the point, then giving me shit for following you! I can't figure out if you're a good debater or a really bad one.

If after all of this discussion you HONESTLY still don't get it, then you have some research to do my friend. We all would be more than happy to help you, but not if you're going to pick apart our explanations of things. Yes, they will include opinions, it comes with the territory.

Try to stick to the problem at hand. If you're honestly not a troll, then try and have a competent, adult conversation or debate. Many of us on here love to debate as long as it is facts that are being debated, not opinions.

It's easier to get out of a marriage than to get out the org, especially if one is a second or third generation witness (or is that all one generation? Not sure). In a divorce you lose half your stuff, not all of your friends and family who are in.

Your deviation from the point doesn't apply, asking me if I feel that myself or others feel controlled isn't the point. It is a red herring.

But to answer the question (again) EVERYONE who is involved with the org is controlled. Some like the control, some are actually unaware!

Many of us here have read some great books and information about controlling groups and people. Personally I have read Combatting Cult Mind Control and am partway into Freedom of Mind. I would recommend either to you if you would like more information.

On day I told my wife that I really don't like the control the org puts on people. She adamantly disagrees that it's controlling at all! Yeah we still have more work to do. This illustrates the point that many people read articles like this, automatically agree because it comes from Jehovah himself the WT and actually believe they have 100% free will.

Picture in your mind that the WT is a person, and you are married to that person. That person decides all these things for you, and then tells you how lucky you are that you have such freedom!

Is that freedom at all?

Honestly, some people are lazy/stupid and need/want to be told what to do all the time. These people willingly surrender their free will to another as a means of absolving themselves of responsibility and guilt.

But to say that this is the only way of life, and the best way of life, to live in such "FREEDOM" is a contradiction in itself. I sorry, I can't think of another way to put it more clearly.

I think you might be missing the point.. The fact is that the WT exerts such control over its members, and yet prints garbage like this. If you disagree that the org is controlling, then please take a closer look at WHO decides what is "proper for Christians".

A New "Class"?

in 1935 a "new class" was "discerned" when the great crowd was understood to have an earthly hope and survive armageddon.. could there be a new "class" of witnesses surfacing today?

the articles, such as those on blood, feature a "some" whose conscience permits this and that.

Some articles, talks, etc. more recently have started to draw a line in the sand. Take a look at the way they slant it when you see them.

Teens: "modern-day Absaloms" who like to live a normal life, might even party once in a while and talk to the opposite sex!

Blood: Some, may feel that their conscience will allow for such treatments. Each of us would do well to consider what our bible trained conscience will allow.

Serve-us: "sadly, some have lost the zeal they once had for the ministry. May we continue to encourage such ones to restore their relationship with Jehovah, and join once again in making his name known in all the earth!"

Arrogance won't get you far around here, jus' warning you.

The contradiction to the org is the fact that they present a large host of rules, but don't call them rules. They call them "bible principles". Even when the biblical support is weak, or non-existent. You know what they are, I don't have to explain.

The point is that people can sit in the meeting, read this, put their hand up and parrot a sentence from the paragraph in answer to a leading question, designed to reaffirm a point, all without stopping for a moment to realize... Wtf? We have hundreds of rules to I've by, all set by these MEN who claim to speak for God. So if God doesn't micromanage us, why do we let these men do it?

At what age do people 'wake up'?

i was thinking about this question recently after being at the meeting when new pioneers were announced for the 2013 service year.. we have a dozen or so pioneers in the congregation, and most are in their 20's.

some absolutely love the things they are taught and can't wait to spread the good news.. others in the congregation are going through the motions, tired of hearing the same old same old but have no way to change things now.

then there are a couple like me.

I think I started to wake up a few years ago, when my mom was DFed. I was 22. It kind of shook me up, made me realize it wasnt such a "spiritual paradise" after all. I decided to start researching, very slowly at first. And only from the WTlib disk. At the time, just seeing the words "Jehovah's Witnesses" on an Internet browser was enough to get the guilt/fear machine running. If that isn't phobia indoctrination, I don't know what is.

If nothing else, I allowed myself to acknowledge the contradictions, problems with doctrines, and problems with people in the cong. Once that list reached a point where I HAD to know the TRUTH, I went searching on the Internet for answers. I still couldn't read a WT article without the hypnotic feeling.

I automatically denied most of the points I found from apostates, but once I learned the truth about 607 and the WT dishonesty in presenting "evidence", it all came crashing down. REALLY hard. That was in Jan. of this year, just before I turned 25.

Looking from inside the Borg, I don't see people waking up at all. The WT has stepped up the mind control, and it seems to be working. Sad, but true. I see it in my own wife. Fear and guilt just builds and builds. I hope it will lead to a breaking point for some, but sadly, for many it won't.

While these two points aren't so much a contradiction to themselves, they do contradict the real truth of the org. If you were to write out a list of things that JWs CAN'T do, it would've a book in itself! Especially if it included "scriptural support" (biblical acrobatics).

Yes, that's right Recovery, I have been appointed by the master over all his domestics. Now all you have to do, is mail me a check for as much as you can scrape together, and you will survive Armageddon! I guarantee it! Actually... JEHOVAH guarantees it. He said so in the bible.

Seriously though, why are you so stuck on this? The entire idea of applying this PARABLE to a person/group came from a reader of the early Zion's Watchtower. He/she wrote in to Russell, suggesting that this PARABLE could be applied to Russell himself. While he sort of made light of it at the time, he certainly never denied it. After his death, Rutherford declared that it was an indisputable fact! That Pastor Russell was th 'faithful and wise steward' mentioned in Matt. 24. To doubt this was to doubt the Lord himself!

Today, as you of course know the FDS is referred to as the entire collective body of the 'anointed remnant' even though these are NEVER called on for their opinions or beliefs. The GB does not consult their fellow "brothers of Christ" at all. So how can this be?

The simple fct of the matter though, is that when the evidence is weighed, the evidence for this just being a goddamned PARABLE and not a prophesy, not referring to a person, group, church, system or anything FAR outweighs the support for the WT current view, or even a variation thereof.

Piaf after your personal consideration of the bible account in context, and the points that have been presented you by the great minds on this board, you need to take a closer look at your own confirmation bias. We've all had to do it, even when we didn't know what it was. Maybe it's your turn.
